Vintage "Morris" style reclining chair or "Fireside" chair.
This is a beautiful, and very rare, old "Morris" style reclining chair.
I cannot find a maker or date anywhere on it, but this type of chair was predominantly produced between 1866 and 1920 and was popularised by the William Morris company. Its very unusual to come across one of these with all of its original woodwork and backings intact. For more information on Morris chairs, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Chair
The chair even has an old shipping ticket stuck in the bottom for added authenticity!
It has a wood and ply back with a 3-position recliner adjustment bar, arms with "barley twist" fronts, and turned "feet".
It measures approximately 60cm wide x 83cm deep x 84cm high.
The chair is in excellent condition for its age, and has had minimal restoration done on it. A couple of wear areas have had a very light traditional oil-based stainer applied, but most of its original patina has been left intact.
Included with the chair are two new hand-made cushions and covers, one for the back and one for the front. The covers are removable, should you need to wash them, and the cushions are very comfortable.
So with this piece you have a traditional vintage furniture item combined with modern comfort.
